Common Problems After a Connection is Made
This section describes common problems you may encounter when using the instrument
on a LAN. It assumes you have been able to connect to the instrument in the past. If this is
not so, refer to the previous sections first.
Pressing Preset does not affect LAN settings, but pressing System, Restore Sys Defaults
will reset to the original factory defaults. You will then have to reset the instrument IP
address and other LAN settings in System, Config I/O.
Remember that in any type of programming using LAN you should avoid constantly opening
and closing connections. This uses up processing resources, adds to your system overhead,
and can cause problems with asynchronous implementation of successive commands.
When you are sending the instrument multiple commands: open the connection, send all
the commands, and close the connection.
Cannot connect to the N8201A
If you suspect a bad LAN connection between your computer and instrument, you can
verify the network connection by using the ping command described later in this chapter
or another similar echo request utility.
